About Hiren Bora

A man from the rich cultural heritage town of Tezpur of North East India, Hiren Bora , stage actor turned Film maker, Story & Script writer, depicts the Socio-economic development issues through celluloid. He is the author of a number short stories. Some of his short stories have been turned into film. He had associated himself in making films from his very young age . Being a member of a family of cultural background. He started his journey independently by directing/producing T.V. Serials in Assamese, Hindi & English besides documentaries for Doordarshan; other T.V. Channels and radio plays for All India Radio. Some of his serials received awards of Best Director, Best serial, Best story from the well known cultural organizations of Assam. His Maiden venture in celluloid is “Basundhara – the earth” scripted from his own story. The film reflects the awareness of public interest & social importance among the fringe area people.

“Basundhara – the earth” has won the National Award “RAJAT KAMAL” for Best regional film at the 57th National Film Awards for 2009 by the Directorate of Film Festivals, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, New Delhi. The film also bagged the Prestigious “Rup knowar Jyoti Prasad Agarwalla” Award for Best Feature Film along with nine other major awards at Assam Film Award 2010, by the Cultural Department, Govt of Assam. The film was selected and screened at different film festivals both in India and abroad.

 

His second venture KHOBH – anguish (2014) is a film adaptation from his own story. The film is based on child psychology. The film KHOBH - anguish was screened at the prestigious 22 nd Cairo International Cinema and Arts Festival for Children, Cairo, Egypt, Kolkata International Film Festival, Kolhapur International Film Festival, Karnataka International Children’s Film Festival. Bengaluru International Film Festival. International Children's Film Festival Bangladesh, Dhaka and also screened at Habitat Film Festival, New Delhi. Certificate of Excellence International Spiritual Film Festival India,Bhopal.

 

His third venture is Seema-the story untold. The film is based on true story. The film captures
the agony of evacuation of the historic Tezpur town during the Chinese aggression of 1962.

 

His fourth venture in Assamese feature film Banhi – the flute, The story is based on family
drama.

His fifth venture is Rabha Feature Film Nasimay : darling (2020) The film is based on the woman empower. Nasimay (Darling) was screened at the 28 th  Kolkata International Film Festival. 20th Dhaka International Film Festival (Cenema of the World section) 2022, Germany International Film festival (Cinema of Nations, 2021) & Lift Of Global Netwok, (Film Festival) UK, Germany International Film festival (Cinema of Nations, 2021) & Lift Of Global Netwok, (Film Festival) UK, Roshni International Film festival,2023, Sweden Film Awards (Best Editor Award) 2023.

 

His sixth venture is Assamese Feature Film Burkha - the veil.

 

He was the recipient of “DR. AMBEDKAR AWARD” for cultural performance from Dalit Sahitya Academy, New Delhi, “OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE AND EXCELLENCE AWARD” and CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION given by the former Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Late Chandra Sekhar, New Delhi, and of “ Babu Jagjivan Ram State Memorial Award ” in the field of Art & culture by Bharatiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy , Assam State Committee .2007. He was also recipient of “Special recognition Awards 2010” in the field of Cinema & Cultural activities
from “Jeewan Ram Mungi Devi Goenka Public Cheritable Trust”, Guwahati, conferred by internationally acclaimed actor from West Bengal Mr.Saumitra Chatterjee, recipient of Awards & Certificate of appreciation of “Ratan Bikash Award” from Mr. Bandaru Duttatraya, Hon’ble Minister, Urban Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi, among others.
